Actress Halima Abubakar wants all of you to know she started the colour blocking trend! In an interview with Punch, Halima who is no stranger to being on the wrong side of fashion criticism claims she is the originator of color blocking.
Please excuse me while I laugh in Swahili!
Speaking to Punch newspaper she said,
I am definitely a trendsetter. I’m eccentric and weird in my style. Sometimes, I don’t get it right but I am happy with the result. I’m always glad that I’m not copying anyone. In fact people copy me. When I started colour blocking, it was just for the fun of it and not because I did not know that I should not have more than three colours on my outfit.Color blocking, is when you wear multiple solid colors in one outfit. According to my research, the trend first became popular in the 1960s and was inspired by pop art most especially Andy Warhol. Since then the trend has reappeared over the years in one form of the other.
However Halima Abubakar who I believe was born in the 1980s says she stared the trend…issorai! Love her though!
