Yoruba Rap Is On A Roll: Olamide, Kesh, Reminisce, Chinko Ekun, Base One Raise Eko Hotel Roof At #OLIC2

Reminisce
Five years after the death of Dagrin, the Yoruba rap music genre seems to be going through its strongest phase ever with no less than three bona fide superstar mainstream artists coming from the genre.
If the audience at #OLIC2 organised by Right Ent, Achievas Ent & YBNL knew all about Olamide, Lil Kesh and Reminisce already, they certainly found out more about Chinko Ekun and Base One on Sunday night as the latter two produced superb performances that left the live audience and those watching on TV impressed by their lyrics and delivery.
For upcoming artists in the Yoruba rap genre, #OLIC2 may just have been the “it” moment when the indigenous genre attained super genre status.

I Regret Calling Buhari A Terrorist, Evil And A Paedophile – Nnamdi Kanu

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has apologised to President Muhammadu Buhari for calling him a terrorist, evil and a paedophile in his radio broadcasts.
Kanu, who has been charged along with two others by the Federal Government before a Federal High Court in Abuja on six counts of treason and other ancillary offences, said he intended to write a private letter to Buhari to express his apology to the President.
He also apologised to former President Goodluck Jonathan and Igbo elders for “some uncomplimentary things” he said about them.

Won Five Titles, 180 Goals – Is There Any One Who Can Stop Barcelona In 2016?

2467852_heroa
The Catalans rounded off a memorable year with a 4-0 win over Betis and a new goals record as they end 2015 on top of La Liga and seem set for more success in the months ahead.
This has been Barcelona’s year. The Catalan club claimed five out of a possible six trophies in 2015 and rounded it off in sumptuous style with a 4-0 win over Betis on Wednesday night that saw them set a new goals record in the process. Is there any stopping them in 2016?
Time will tell, of course. After all, Real Madrid finished 2014 with four trophies, a hatful of goals and a club record 22 victories in a row last December, only to fade after Christmas and miss out on all the major prizes at the end of last season. So Barca will be wary of counting their chickens just yet.
For the Blaugrana, though, this has been an extraordinary year. To think that is started in January with defeat at Real Sociedad and an unhappy Lionel Messi left on the bench seems almost unthinkable now. Barca clicked later that same month and never looked back, winning the treble as they swept aside everyone in their path to claim La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
The Catalans added the Club World Cup to their 2015 collection by beating River Plate just before Christmas and showed off their trophies before the match against Betis on Wednesday.
2467942
With the Camp Nou crowd in celebratory mood, Barca took a while to get going and were fortunate to go ahead after winning a penalty for a supposed foul by Antonio Adan on Messi. The former Real Madrid goalkeeper clearly punched the ball, however, and the spot-kick should not have been awarded.
Neymar took it but slipped and touched the ball with both feet – which is illegal – as he blasted against the bar and there was also a foul by Ivan Rakitic on Heiko Westermann as the defender put the ball into his own net. So Betis were unlucky to say the least.
In any case, Messi made it 2-0 soon afterwards and after something of a scrappy first half from both teams, Luis Suarez scored twice in a much better performance by Barca in the second period. It was one final exhibition in a memorable year for the Catalan club.
Barca, of course, were banned from registering new players in 2015 after a Fifa sanction for irregularities in the club’s recruitment of young players.
That suspension was expected to hit them hard, but the Catalans coped and can now field summer signings Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan in January, which should make them even stronger for the second half of the season.
The Bluagrana also managed without Messi for two months as the Argentine attacker sat out with a knee injury, but he returned to play a cameo role as Luis Enrique’s side thrashed Madrid 4-0 at the Bernabeu last month and a win by the same scoreline on Wednesday sees them back on top of La Liga with a game in hand as well due to their participation in the Club World Cup.
It was a fitting finale to a wonderful year. And although repeating the success of 2015 will be extremely difficult, but there are no signs of a let-up right now and Barca will be the team to beat again in 2016.

Burnaboy loses an ardent fan, wishes he had done more for her

Burnaboy has lost one of his biggest fans to the cold hands of death. He took to his Instagram to make the announcement and to pay a touching tribute to the young woman named Anita. He wrote:

“I’ve lost my biggest fan @anita__chekwas and honestly I’ve seen the worst things there are to see in this world and I’ve endured the worst type of pains in my lifetime but NEVER in my life have I felt more of a failure than I feel today. This girl has had my back since I started this career and as much as I appreciate her and everyone like her, I have not done a very good job showing it and making them feel the true love I have for them. Here I find myself wishing that I could have reached out somehow, I should have followed her on every social media platform, I should have given her shout outs or even gifts on her birthday, I should have bin there for her as she has always bin there for me, who knows if that could have made things different or at least made her that much Happier. I know her beautiful soul is up there with my brother Gambo watching over me. I apologize to every fan That Has ever felt unappreciated nd every true fan that I haven’t bin able to find or reach out to and From now on I will do everything I can to make my true Fans and supporters feel as Loved and appreciated as I truly feel for them from the depths of my soul.#RIP Anita.”

I Accused My Boyfriend Of Rape To Punish Him” – Teenager

There is a new twist to the alleged rape case of a 19-year-old teenager, Gbemisola, as she now claims to have framed 24-year-old Kunle in order to punish him.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Friday that Gbemisola and Kunle were in an intimate relationship and had sexual intercourse by mutual consent.
It was further learnt that Gbemisola had sent some of her nude pictures to Kunle on Whatsapp before things went awry between them.
Our correspondent had reported on Friday that Gbemisola, a caterer, had alleged that Kunle asked her out, which she turned down because she had a boyfriend already.
She had alleged that the suspect lured her into his parents’ house in Agiliti Estate, Ketu, and raped her.
She claimed that the suspect did a picsmix of her nude pictures, included her phone number, and shared them with his friends on the Internet.
The suspect, while reacting, had told our correspondent that Gbemisola was his girlfriend, adding that the 19-year-old sent him the nude pictures, which he only showed to his friends.
On Friday, PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect was arrested by the police and the case was immediately transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.
After both of them were grilled by police detectives, it was discovered that Gbemisola lied in her statement to the police at the Ketu Police Division.
Kunle, who was in tears at the SDCI, told our correspondent that the only evidence he had of their relationship was destroyed by Gbemisola on the morning of his arrest.
He said, “I am in a big trouble. The only evidence I have that she sent those pictures to me was my chat history. But immediately the police came to arrest me, she picked my phone and threw it into a well.
“She is the only one that can save me by just telling the truth. We were in a relationship and I didn’t rape her.”
Our correspondent, who later spoke with Gbemisola, asked why she lied against Kunle.
Gbemisola said she wanted to punish him for betraying her trust and sharing her nude pictures with his friends and family members on the Internet, adding that some of his friends had been calling to demand “their own share of sex.”
She said she threw his phone into the well because Kunle claimed he had evidence of their relationship.
She said, “He is my boyfriend and we had dated for just one week when he asked for my nude pictures. When two people are dating and they are in love, anything can happen between them.
“Initially, I declined and he started begging me. I asked him to swear on oath that he would later delete the pictures from his phone and he did. I sent the pictures because of the trust I had in him.”
Gbemisola said she visited him few days afterwards, and he had sex with her.
“He didn’t rape me, but I gave in because he begged, saying it had been long since he did it.”
She said the following day, Kunle asked for a recharge card, which she sent to him, adding that he made more demands and when she declined, the suspect threatened to make her a “celebrity” in the community.
“I discovered he never loved me and merely wanted to use and dump me.
“When he asked me to come to his house again, I refused and asked him to do his worst. He then asked me to log in to Whatsapp. Immediately I did, I saw that he had made my nude photos his Display Picture (DP). He also sent them to me, as well,” she added.
She said her first boyfriend, who got hold of her phone saw the pictures, and was angry.
Gbemisola said she also received text messages and telephone calls from those who saw the pictures.
“They were saying, ‘come and let’s sleep with you too.’ I was humiliated. A few days later, I was on the road when Kunle saw me and started mocking me. I almost committed suicide,” she added.
She said she damaged Kunle’s laptop after he continued with his threat that he had another explicit video of her.
“I lied against him to punish him for what he did. I threw away his phone into the well because he claimed to have evidence. I wanted to destroy him completely.
“But seeing how far this case has gone, I want to forgive him. We are from the same Ondo State and our parents are friends,” she added.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Joe Offor, told our correspondent that investigation was on.
He said, “Both parties agreed that the intercourse of that date was consensual and could not have amounted to rape. Other aspects of the allegation are under investigation.”

Man rapes 24-year-old Facebook lover during first meeting.

A 26-year-old man, Taiwo Oluwatobi, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly luring his Facebook lover to his house, and raping her.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Oluwatobi had met the 24-year-old victim, identified only as Temitope, on Facebook. He had allegedly lured her to his house in the Alagomeji, Yaba area of the state to collect N15,000, during which he raped her.
It was gathered that the incident happened at the suspect’s friend’s rented apartment on Queens Street, Alagomeji, on Monday, November 30, and the visit was Oluwatobi and Temitope’s first meeting.
It was gathered that the victim, who worked as a printer in the Mushin area, told Oluwatobi, who she reportedly met on Facebook around June 2015, that she needed N15,000 to settle a debt.
The suspect was said to have invited the lady to Alagomeji, to meet each other and also collect the money.
Temitope was said to have arrived at the apartment around 6pm and left at about 8pm, during which Oluwatobi allegedly raped her.
The victim was said to have reported the matter to the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.
It was learnt that Oluwatobi, who hails from Ila Orangun, Osun State, was arrested on Tuesday, December 1.
According to the police, the suspect, said to be a graduate of a university in Oyo State, was also a suspected member of the Buccaneers’ Confraternity.
It was gathered that the police also arrested the suspect’s friend, Adenuga Adedayo, in whose apartment the rape allegedly took place.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Oluwatobi, who worked as a caterer, said he had a consensual sexual intercourse with Temitope, adding that he saw the lady off when she was going back home. He said he was shocked that she reported the sex as rape to the police.
He said, “We met on Facebook some months ago. From Facebook, we began to talk on the telephone. That day was the first time we would meet, and we had a sexual intercourse. She does printing jobs and she stays in the Mushin area.
“She had asked me for N15,000, saying she had a debt she needed to settle. I invited her to my area. After the intercourse, she went to the police to say I raped her. She was the one who told the police that I was a cult member.
“The reason for her coming was that I promised to give her N15,000 to settle someone she owed money. We had sex and at about 8pm, she left. My friend was not at home that time and I see no reason to tell him that somebody visited me.
“I joined the Buccaneers Confraternity when I was in 200-level in the university. I was just a member. After leaving school, I quit the group.”
The friend, Adedayo, from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, denied any knowledge of the rape, saying he housed Oluwatobi for a week when he (Oluwatobi) said he had a job to do in the area.
He said, “The police accused me of housing a cultist and his girlfriend, but I did not know about the incident. I work in the Apapa area as a teacher. I did not know he is a cultist. He had come to me to assist him with accommodation, as he had a job in our area. That was in the last week of November.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, had yet to reply to a text message sent to his phone on the incident.

Declare me winner – Dickson

The Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, has put the average statistics of the voters that took part in the December 5, 2015 governorship election at 40 per cent, contrary to the claim of the opposition candidate.
The governor, who said this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, on Saturday, clarified that the statistics was not peculiar to Bayelsa State.
Dickson said having won six out of the seven local government areas declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission with a wide margin, he should be declared the winner of the election and not the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Chief Timpre Sylva.

Buhari is a big joker—Briggs

Niger Delta activist, Ms. Annkio Briggs, tells TOBI AWORINDE that probing former President Goodluck Jonathan for the alleged diversion of $2.1bn for arms procurement funds would be selective
What are your thoughts on the ongoing corruption case over the alleged diversion of $2bn meant for arms procurement?
Unfortunately for us, Nigeria is that type of country where nothing surprises me in terms of how governance is carried out and the irresponsibility and recklessness of people that put themselves in power in our name and carry out things in the way and manner in which it shouldn’t be.
Recently, a judge in the United Kingdom questioned the integrity of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the contentious sale of an offshore oil block for $1.1bn in 2011. Coupled with his alleged role in the $2.1bn arms procurement fund, do you think he should be investigated?
I read it in the papers and, according to what was reported, they called him a nickname and they concluded that that nickname is Jonathan. Let us be careful; did they call Jonathan to the UK court? Somebody called his name there; did they call him to come and testify? Was (former President Olusegun) Obasanjo’s name not mentioned in America? In America, someone is in jail right now over payments in the Halliburton (scandal). Was Obasanjo’s name not called? Was another party leader’s name not called? What has happened to them? We should now accept that, because his name was called, he is guilty? So if he is guilty, where is his punishment? If Obasanjo was guilty, where is his own punishment? Or is it because Jonathan is from the South-South, so we have to accept everything they say about him? I think that we should stop deceiving ourselves, in terms of how Nigeria is governed. We should stop deceiving ourselves that we are fighting corruption. We believe that we can live together; we should ask ourselves, ‘How can we live together?’ That is the question that we should ask ourselves.
This country does not belong to only one people. I come from the Niger Delta and the Niger Delta belongs to me. The Niger Delta is in Nigeria, so I belong to Nigeria and Nigeria belongs to me. I don’t have to accept every injustice that is meted out just because I am in Nigeria or just because I am in the Niger Delta. I think people should be fair in everything that is being done in this country. The British Empire amalgamated this country without the permission of the people that they put together and gave a name that they called Nigeria. Nigeria is a name that somebody woke up and gave to a group of people. Nigeria was not created by God, nor was it created by Nigerians. The Ijaw, Yoruba, Hausa and Fulani people all existed before Nigeria existed. If they didn’t exist, nobody would have brought them together. I think that if truly we want to be fair to this country that is called Nigeria, we should ask ourselves, ‘How do we live together?’ But the way things are being done right now is not going to keep Nigeria intact at all because the stress and the pressure that is being put on a particular section of Nigeria right now and that has been put on this section for a very long time has been going on for too long.
Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, and a human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), are among several who believe a second term Jonathan would have spelt doom for Nigeria. What do you think?
How can anybody in their right mind say that? Are they predicting? Is anybody able to predict? I cannot predict. I will not join people to make that type of prediction. How would I know what Jonathan’s second term would have been like? If they have become God and they have predicted it, we will never know now will we, because Jonathan didn’t have a second term?
Critics of the Muhammadu Buhari administration believe Jonathan is being singled out for probe. What do you think?
That just goes to prove that the attack right from the beginning is directed at somebody from the minority area, as far as I am concerned, because there have been many leaders before him. Nobody is calling for Obasanjo’s probe and there are so many questions that are left unanswered about his government. Like I’ve said, when Jonathan’s former boss, Yar’Adua, was ill in Saudi Arabia, there is this acceptance that the signature that released the supplementary budget at the time was definitely not signed by (late ex-President Umaru) Yar’Adua; it could not have been signed by Yar’Adua and nobody is calling for a probe in that area. Like I have said, I am not against the fight against corruption. All I am saying is that this corruption fight that looks so one-sided leaves a lot to be desired. But whatever it is they choose to do, they will do that and whatever reaction that people want to feel is the reaction that people would feel. A lot of things are being done and it seems like it is being targeted at a particular people from a particular place.
Are you saying the investigations should start with governments that preceded Jonathan?
Definitely, I think I have said that repeatedly to journalists on any occasion I have had to speak publicly. I have said corruption started a very long time ago. For instance, in December 2011, after winning the election, Jonathan said his government would remove fuel subsidy and we all saw what happened. The marketers, the opposition and Nigerians who believed that the subsidy should not be removed brought Nigeria to a standstill. Jonathan was called all kinds of names for wanting to remove fuel subsidy, which has remained a high source of looting the resources of this country. A group of people calling themselves oil marketers export crude oil, bring in finished products and sell them to us at a rate that we subsidise. It doesn’t make sense. Nigerians said, ‘No, subsidy should remain.’ Today, Jonathan is no longer the president. The (then) opposition that was at the forefront of saying subsidy should remain has come back to say fuel subsidy should go. Why should it go? Why are people not saying fuel subsidy should stay? It makes me say people wanted fuel subsidy to stay because it was Jonathan that said fuel subsidy should not stay. Now that Jonathan is no longer there, fuel subsidy can therefore go. Whoever thought that the price of oil would go down to where it is today? Yet, today, we have a government that told us that Boko Haram will be dealt with; now Boko Haram is stronger today than when Jonathan was there.
We have a government that told us that the Chibok girls would be found when they came in. Now, the Chibok girls are not found. We have a government that told us that the dollar would become N1. Now, it is N250 to the dollar. We have a government that said it would feed primary schoolchildren free of charge, once a day. Even at the time it was making those promises, I didn’t see how they could achieve it while the price of oil was going down. We have a government that says it is going to pay unemployed graduates N5,000; how are they going to identify these undergraduates? I think that any government, not just Buhari’s government, should tell Nigerians the truth. Nigerians deserve to be told the truth and not deceived, lied to and conned. I feel for Buhari because four years after, Nigerians will find fault with him. He has a mandate of four years and between now and 2019, more things will emerge and Nigerians will have the opportunity to know whether the decision Nigerians made was the right decision or not.
Do you mean Jonathan is being subjected to a regional or ethnic-based witch-hunt?
If you say it is regional, Dasuki is not from the South; he is from the North. But again, Dasuki is somebody that was involved in a coup some time ago. If you look at it from that angle, Dasuki can look at what is happening to him as some kind of retaliation for roles that he may have played even before Jonathan appointed him the NSA. You don’t have to come only from the Niger Delta for retaliation or political witch-hunting to affect you. If the aim is to eventually pull Jonathan down, then it doesn’t matter whether the NSA is an Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa man. What matters is that the NSA was used eventually to get at him. Before Jonathan, (former petroleum minister) Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, (former Niger Delta minister, Godsday) Orubebe, (former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency) Patrick Akpobolokemi, there were people there. Are we saying those people were squeaky clean?
What does this government stand to gain by targeting Jonathan since it has succeeded in taking over power from him?
What were they aiming to gain by their desire to remove him? For me, as a Nigerian, having been around from independence, through the various coups, having seen so much, I am of the conviction that the government of Nigeria, people who call themselves power brokers, are people who feel that they must always control political and economic power in Nigeria. And quite honestly, I believe that Nigeria is too big for a group of persons to want to control Nigeria as their personal property. Definitely, I think that, as someone who comes from a region that produces the wealth of this nation, I think that that kind of attitude has taken a lot for granted and one of those things they have taken for granted is the fact that we are the minority. But whether we are small in number or not, nobody can take away the fact that the resources that come from our region is not small and whether it is right or not, we have reached the point where we are saying that if we are not good enough to govern Nigeria at any time or to be part of the governance of Nigeria — the South-East and the South-South — then how is it that the resources from our region is good enough for Nigeria?
